Dating Sites
by Kathryn Vercillo on November 2, 2007

A press release a few weeks ago announced that TrustCash, a service provider of secure online payments, had just completed a six month trial working in conjunction with dating site IWantU.com. The trial proved that a significant number of new people signed up for the dating site when provided with the option of using TrustCash for payments. The theory is that two target groups of singles - those who don't have credit cards and those who are concerned about their privacy - were comfortable joining the group once they had the security of TrustCash.
Maybe that's true and maybe not. But it brings us back to that same old question about online dating. One of the target groups is basically people who don't want dating sites showing up on their credit card bills. So does that mean that they're embarrassed that they're online dating? And if so, why do it then? It seems to me that the stigma should be gone by now but indicators keep pointing to the fact that it's not gone at all.
