The Wall Street Journal published an article earlier this month which is worth taking a look at if you engage in the scientific art of online dating. The article informs people about the all-too-common practice that some daters engage is which is to Copy the profiles of other people online by using a "cut-and-paste" method. They create their own profile using the words that someone else has written.
Some people say that this isn't really that big of a deal. Someone who isn't a good writer might find that he or she identifies with what's written on someone else's page and thinks that person said it better than they ever could. However, others say that this is a form of deception and that relationships formed from deception obviously aren't going to go anywhere.
The general rule that we all say to follow with online dating is to be yourself. However, we also all know that most people aren't their "real" selves on a first date, or at least they aren't their total selves. Using words cut from another person's profile may just be a way to let potential dates know what you're about without having to stumble around for the right words yourself.
Question of the Day: Are you offended by the idea that someone would be using a cut-and-paste profile?
