Dating and Feminism

The posts that have been published here this week have gotten some feedback and not all of it has been too pretty. some women found the comment suggesting that men should bring back the old practice of bringing flowers on a first date to be an offensive idea. Is the idea of chivalry dead or has it just changed shape as our dating practices have changed?

I can see why men wouldn't want to bring flowers on a first date with someone they've just met online. It could be a waste of money. It could be awkward if she doesn't like you. It could be seen as too silly or sentimental. But I can't particularly think of a good reason that a woman would not want to get flowers on a date.

However, some women believe that dating practices such as this take dating back to a time when women were subservient to the men in their lives. They want to come to the first date dinner table as equals, not as someone who is going to be given a gift. Although I don't see gifts that way, it's a perspective that others seem to share.

Question of the Day: Do you think Feminism has altered the dating scene so dramatically that first date gifts are now inappropriate?
