David Evans recently made the profoundly insightful point that eHarmony is not Google, but that maybe the world would be a better place if eHarmony was more like Google…
What's the difference? Google changes…
Whether you're talking about eHarmony, Match.com, Plenty of Fish, Chemistry.com, or whatever site – they don't change much. Google's success is based on the fact that day to day, hour to hour it updates itself. It grows, evolves, and changes. Goggle is different now than it was an hour or two ago. It has different content, and it may even use different methods because the algorithm they use to find their results changes.
Dating sights, sadly, don't evolve much. The algorithm they use to hook you up with Suzie McDonald or David Stenson are pretty much the same as they were the day you joined – five years ago…
