First Date Plans: Coffee? Movie? Bar?

It's time. You've met someone online that you like and you're ready to move into a real world meeting. You're ready to make that first date. But where do you go? Some people say that they always only do coffee or lunch because they can get in and out quickly without seeming rude, seeing how much they really like the person in person before committing to spending a lot of time with them. Others say that they prefer a bar; perhaps because social drinking eases their discomfort or maybe because they like the chance that they might get to dance with their date. And still others go the dinner and a movie route, movie first so that they have a conversation starter over dinner.

But those people who frequently engage in online dating may find that they get tired of "grabbing lunch" or talking about movies they only moderately liked with this new person. So they go on more creative dates. They head to the local park for a picnic. They go bowling with a group of other people. They get risqué and head to see a burlesque show or they go back to their college days and check out an improve comedy event. They take the risk of showing their new date what kind of events they really enjoy because they want to find out if this partnership could be a real match.

What do you think? Is it better to go the safe route and chat it up a bit over a quick coffee? Would you rather avoid talk in the first couple of hours with a movie and see where it goes from there? Or do you think this idea of taking a chance on a creative date is the way to go? If you're thinking that creative is the way to go, you might want to check out the hot first date ideas suggested by iVillage, Cool Nurse, and AskMen.com.

I think if you want to get to know someone you need to spend a fair bit of time with them. Coffee is caffeine addicts – a well planned date is the way to go.
