David Evans has a good point...
In order to make enough money to survive, free dating sites are currently stuck in a revenue rut. All they can do to earn enough money to keep the lights on and the servers running is plaster sites with (for the most part) un-targeted advertising. With a recession taking most of the steam out of online advertising, the question is really this: How long can free sites hang on based on ad revenue alone?
I've heard rumors that Plenty of Fish may go to a pay model. Time will tell. Or maybe an economic recover will breath life into the ad market.
