How VoIP Works for Online Dating
Filed in archive Dating Sites by Kathryn Vercillo on February 04, 2008

There's a communications technology that many online daters have been using for awhile but which is just starting to see interest by the media. That technology is VoIP. This calling system which is filtered through the Internet allows people to exchange data and voice messages with each other without having to give out their real phone numbers, something that many online daters find to be a benefit in weeding out potential bad dates.
There are many different ways that this kind of technology can happen. Skype calls used to be the most common form of VoIP but now there are a plethora of different companies providing this technology and many of them offer unique options to their users. One great option is the "click-to-call widget". This allows someone to click on your button and dial your number without actually ever learning what the number is. Although primarily used by businesses, it's turning up on sites like Facebook and can be adopted by online dating sites to make calling easier.
We're starting to see partnerships like these take place between VoIP companies and online dating sites. One of the reasons that VoIP technology has gained popular interest by daters is that it was recently announced that Jangl and PlentyOfFish teamed up to provide just this kind of service to daters interested in connecting via phone while maintaining their privacy. Texting, voice and messaging between PlentyOfFish daters will now be possible.
Question of the Day: What reasons would you have for using VoIP instead of your cell phone or landline for calling people you met on an online dating site?
