Old-Fashioned Dating Rules

Smiling Young Couple in a Restaurant

With today's modern dating world, the old-fashioned rules seem to have gone out the window. After all, women ask out men, people use online dating, and singles wait much longer to get married than they used to.

So does that mean you shouldn't be old-fashioned?

No way. There's an article over at AskMen that really sums this up beautifully. The reality is, women still expect men to do things like pay for a meal and open the car door for them. Women work very hard in life and there are times when they are taken advantage of. So they don't want a slouch on their couch, they want to find someone worthy of their love. When a guy picks up a check, it lets a woman know he wants to pull his own weight in a relationship.

There are some guys that just plain do not understand this concept. I had one guy insist that he'd pick up the check, then ordered me to pay the tip (and told me how much to put down.) Still another realized we weren't going to sleep together on our first date, and told me I should pay my own half since I wasn't going to put out. I doubt they realize the impression they made.

With all the modern changes the world of dating has gone through in the last few years, one thing remains the same: old-fashioned values still count.

Do you agree?

Women take advantage of men just as much as the reverse. Men do not exist for the sole purpose of pleasing women. Any man following the “Askmen” advice will find himself being taken advantage of. Men are human too.
Men should not be paying dinner for a women until AFTER they have slept together. Why should he pay for a dinner for a women he does not even know? Doesn’t she need to prove that she can pull her own weight also?

Women want the best of both worlds: They want old-fashioned when it benefits them; and they want equality when it benefits them.
