Online Dating Does Better on Facebook than on Own Sites

You may recall hearing about IAmFreeTonight, an online dating site that started to gain some attention last year as a place where people could go to meet others in their area who were ready to go out on a date that very same night. The site is still around but you might not be hearing as much about it these days since the people who made it seem to be doing better over on Facebook than they are on the site itself.
Forbes recently published an interesting article about Facebook and the power that it provides to many businesses. It noted how well certain companies have done after promoting themselves on the social networking site. And it gave examples of business that do better when marketing on Facebook than when working from their own websites.
IAmFreeTonight is one of the examples given by Forbes of just such a situation. The creators of the site halted their work on it for a time in order to create an online dating application for Facebook called Meet New People. the facebook ap got attention through viral marketing and soon had more users than the website did. In fact, the creators of the application liked their results so much that they created a second online dating Facebook application called Are You Interested?
Social networking seems to be the way that people are communicating these days. As such, it's little surprise that online dating is doing well on these platforms. But is it going to last? Only time will tell.
Question of the Day: Would you be more inclined to visit an online dating website or a Facebook dating application?

Online dating can be kinda cool. I think social networking sites are geared toward 20 somethings and not a more mature dater. And, there must be thousands of dating sites out on the web. I did some research and found http://www.datingsitedirect.com to be a good place to start. Many sites are just affiliate doorways to other sites. And then some are just riddled with advertising to the point where it’s almost unreadable.
