Online Dating or a Professional Matchmaker? Some Pros and Cons

I came across an article recently at Suite 101 that compared the pros and cons of online dating services to the pros and cons of a professional matchmaker’s services. And (like most things in life) it kind of depends on who you are.
One of the benefits of a matchmaker (according to the piece) is that a professional matchmaker can specialize in a religion or ethnic group. Sure, there are niche dating sites too. But if you live in a major urban center you can probably find a matchmaker who specializes in finding marriage partners for left-handed Croatian Buddhists (or something like that).
Of course, one of the disadvantages of matchmaker services is embedded in that last statement: if you live in a rural area. Services like this are harder to find if (like me) you live out in the sticks.
But the piece is thought provoking.
