Plenty of Fish, Match.com Hiss and Spit at Each Other Over Stats

Plenty of Fish is now the leading dating site on the web (according to Plenty of Fish). The response from Match.com (which also claims to be the leading dating site on the Web)? Something like "Liar, liar, pants on fire!"

I'm inclined to believe Markus at Plenty of Fish – partly because he posts stats from comScores, Inc., and partly because (as he points out) Match.com has a history of playing fast and loose with numbers, anyway.

The numbers from comScores are interesting. Plenty of Fish sees about twice as many visitors a day as Match.com – 1.2 million for POF to 680 thousand a day for Match.

The hissing and spitting (most of it coming from Match, which is used to being able to say that it's top dog) will be interesting to watch, if it continues. Simple question: Is the era of paid dating sites coming to a close?
