On July 22nd
PlentyofFish attempted to establish a world record for the largest speed dating event held under one roof. (
See press release). I asked Markus how the event went. It was a success. Markus said, "the hosts will have the count in the next few days, they have to count all the registrations. Someone at the door counted 251 couples holding hands and leaving at the end of the night. We had too many women so they had to turn a few away." The Guinness world record event rules were incredibly stringent. The whole event had to run like clockwork.
Here are the pictures from the event. What's even more amazing is the teamwork that was required to bring the event together. It was all completed by volunteers. PlentyofFish is the last remaining, absolutely, really, no REALLY, completely free internet dating site. It continues to move up the internet dating site rankings and is currently ranked #2 in Canada (Comscore) and #6 in USA (Hitwise). Markus tells me he intends to keep his peddle to the metal and take over Match.com sometime in 2007. That's a tall order, but he's making major inroads on the US market now. Could David really beat Goliath?
