Single on Christmas

It's Christmas Day and you're sitting at home seeing what's on the Internet. You keep finding yourself pulled towards sites about dating and relationships and couples. It's like that whole watching-the-car-wreck phenomenon; you just can't help yourself. You didn't want to be single today. Everyone else that you know is doing something with someone else. And you're moping about it even though you wish that you could get in the holiday spirit.
Here are some tips for enjoying your Christmas even though you aren't part of that couple you wanted to be a part of:
- Make a list of every one you were once in a relationship with during Christmas season. Now make a list under each of those names of the reasons that you aren't together anymore. You'll start feeling better about being single on Christmas in no time.
- Think about the great things that come with being single on a holiday. You don't have to pretend to like a gift you didn't. You don't have to suffer buyer's regret when the credit card bill for the new video game system you bought for him comes in. You aren't obligated to see in-laws.
- Spoil yourself. If you love dark chocolate and red wine, today is the day to buy yourself the best. If your favorite thing about being single is that you can turn the stereo up on high and belt out bad eighties tunes, get your singing voice ready. Do something that you love and can do all by yourself.
- Get online. There are other people out there who are just as lonely as you are today. Get on your favorite Internet dating sites and see who is hanging around. You can even post a message saying that you're interested in chatting on your favorite IM program to anyone who is also home for the holiday. Just remember to keep the conversation focused on fun things and not on the sadness of being solo today. You want chatting to boost you up, not bring you down.
