Spinsters in the Workplace

Reno Testifies Before 9/11 Commission

There's a very interesting article about certain single women being thought of as spinsters. The women listed in this particular article all work in government, but really I think this is a potential issue regardless of what career you're in.

It all started because Governor Ed Rendell said Homeland Security nominee Janet Napolitano was perfect for the demanding job because she "had no life." This started a huge discussion on single women in careers and if they are looked at differently than men.

I mean, seriously, do you ever hear a guy something that could equal the term spinster? Being an unmarried guy seems to be a badge of honor. Like, "the life-long bachelor" who has parties and different women in his bed every night of the week.

There IS an inequity. But how far reaching is it? Does it damage women in the workforce? Or just insult them? What's your thought?
