The Appeal of Geeks

There's an image of the geek as nerd, dork, alone, and without female companionship. That may be true in some cases. But on the whole, I disagree. For a couple of reasons.
First, I think geeks make great boyfriends. I've dated a few because, well, I'm kind of a geek myself. I like words. I like crocheting. Cleaning. Board games. And the Packers.
The reason I'm sharing this with you is because I know that some of you may shy away from the guys that stumble when they what you're doing Friday night or come off quiet and a bit awkward. Geeks are the guys you wonder about. They don't march right up to you and ask you out, and if they do, it's generally done with so much gusto it embarrasses everyone within earshot.
But if you get past all this, geeks will help bring out the geekiness in yourself. And that's a good thing. If you have a dorky hobby you just love (bedazzling every tee shirt you own, organizing your sock drawer twice a week, or getting to the top level of your favorite video game) your geek man will support you. More than that, he'll find it attractive.
I read the Dating Dames's latest post on geeking out her man, and she brings up a good point. Now that she's showing her geeky video game playing side, her man is finding her more and more intriguing. You know all those little odd bits of trivia about yourself that you keep from the people you date? A geek will not only embrace these things but find them attractive. That means you can be yourself. And isn't that always a better thing than trying to be someone you're not just to be in a relationship?
