The Barrier: Moving Your Date from Cyberspace to Real Space

The biggest single barrier in online dating is the Internet.

Think about your experience in the past… You find a profile you like. You message the person. They message you back. You exchange a few emails or messages. He or she gives you their cell number. You talk a couple of times. It seems to drag on for a time. You start to talk about actually meeting (you know, physically – in the real world). That discussion drags on (even though he or she seemed warm to the idea. There are some reasons (or excuses) as to why now is not a good time (my goldfish just died and I have to make arrangements with the pet cemetery). Pretty soon the phone calls, emails and messages dry up and your back to looking at profiles…

Cheryl-Anne Jenkinson has a piece that takes a look at some of the reasons why breaking through that barrier is hard. It's worth reading.
