In an online article about the pros of online dating, David Lowe cites four main reasons that online dating is great: it's fun, fast, convenient and relatively inexpensive. These are all fairly true, but do they get at the heart of the reason why so many people enjoy dating online? Or are these just the surface reasons that someone might choose Internet dating over other options?

Here are some other pros to online dating:

• Safely share secrets. We all have things that we don't want others to know but that have to come out eventually. Maybe we're on house arrest or maybe we have a mole on our backs that we don't like people to see. You can share these things through the Internet and get them out of the way.

• Rejection is easier online. It never feels good, but it's easier to just not get a response back after you "wink" than to have someone walk away from you at the bar.

• You have time to think. It's easy to get flustered when meeting someone in person. You speak impulsively and react instead of acting. The online relationship develops differently and you can take time in responding if you need to.
