The Question of Where You Met

You made a match online. You connected well through email and instant message. You met in person and, to your surprise, you connected even better there. You went on a few dates and discovered that you could really like this person. The relationship conversation took place and you took yourself off of the online dating market. You are glowing with that happy-in-love feeling.

But every time that someone looks at you and your equally-glowing partner and asks, "how did you two meet?", there's an awkward pause. Neither of you is quite comfortable with saying that you met online. Or maybe one of you is comfortable and the other isn't. So what do you say?

One option is to make up something elaborate that couldn't possible be true. It can be a fun game that you play with your partner, seeing who can come up with the craziest creative ideas to toss off when the question is popped. As a general rule, the story will steer the conversation elsewhere and you can avoid the question. But you might want to come up with a Plan B in case a persistent person insists on knowing the real story behind your dramatic posture.
