Traveling Alone

Have you ever taken a vacation by yourself?
Can't say I ever really have. The closest I came were trips to Door County and The Dells (both in Wisconsin.) On each of those trips, my husband had to work during the day. One of the reasons I went was so I could do some fun stuff while he was busy at work, and then we could come together at the end of the day and have dinner and relax.
During those days (before I could work remotely) I spent the entire day alone. I ate by myself, went to attractions alone, and shopped solo. After I started writing online, I was able to bring a laptop and work from a coffee shop.
Still, I never minded being alone during the day because I knew I had someone to see later that night. I can imagine, however, that if you were entirely alone it might be scary and even lonely to go on a trip.
I got started thinking about all this because I caught this article on "Destinations for young singles." The article listed five places and stated, "If you're a young, single woman who wants to travel alone safely, here are five places where you won't be isolated from locals and other travelers."
Safety is but one consideration for traveling alone. There's also finding activities that aren't couples-based and cost. My question for you today is have YOU ever traveled alone? And if so, did you enjoy it? Would you do it again?
