2007 was truly a year when video swept the Internet. With more people using faster Internet than ever before and more options available for viewing video online, people everywhere began turning to the web to watch their entertainment.
Savvy marketers caught on to this trend and began using viral videos to drive attention to their products, services and sites. The trend did not get passed by in the world of online dating. LonelyBloggers.com used viral video to get the attention of over one million people and drive traffic to their site. Other sites caught on and used similar techniques.
But if 2007 was the year for marketers to use video, 2008 is the year for individuals to make use of it. Of course, user-generated content is already big and people regularly record and upload their own videos. And dating sites already use video for people to meet each other. But this year, we'll see more people using the tactics of marketers and the ambition of entrepreneurs to get dates.
In other words, we'll be seeing videos go viral and they'll be videos of individuals who are looking for dates. Why spend money on dating services when you can film your own unique intro video and make people pay attention to it online?
