Woman Biting Bar of Chocolate

Does your weight go up and down when you're dating?

A recent article suggested that a woman's weight can go up and down several times depending on how happy she is in her relationship. When a woman is first dating a guy, she tends to lose weight. Perhaps it's the nerves and excitement of a new relationship, or maybe she just wants to look better. After that, she may get comfortable with him and put on weight.

The article goes on to talk about marriage (when a woman generally loses weight to fit into her dress) and then having babies (when she gains, obviously).

While they talk solely about women in the article, I think guys also go through a cycle of up and down weight loss, although perhaps it's not as drastic as a woman's. For example, I've never heard of a guy losing weight in order to fit into his wedding tux. But I do think men can gain weight when they are in a relationship as well.

When you're in a happy relationship and accepted for who you are, there may be a tendency to put on weight. There is some truth to the phrase "fat and happy."
